Student leads the way in cyber communication for young dentists

Varun Pandula, creator of Junior DentistVarun Pandula, aged 20, is studying towards a BDS at the Meghna Institute of Dental Sciences at Osmania University in India. Having wanted to become a dentist from a young age, as a student Varun decided to create a site where he could share his knowledge on the subject and give a view to the world on what dentistry is about.

The Junior Dentist blog was born as a result and is promoted as a site ‘by a dental student for dental students’. Dental Learning Hub spoke to Varun about his vision for the blog and how he aims to help students become better dentists.

What is the main purpose of your blog?
To give important information to the next generation of dental professionals.

What gave you the idea to start Junior Dentist?
The main idea of starting this blog was to help students with information which is helpful in their studies. I try to keep the content as simple as possible so that everyone can understand it easily.

What do you enjoy most about your blog?
I mainly enjoy the comments from users which are encouraging to keep updating my blog daily. I write in my blog out of enthusiasm to share things which I have learnt as a student.

What are the opportunities for young dentists in India?
Dental students and upcoming dental professionals have great future in India as there is a sudden boom for dentistry and its subspecialty branches. People have become more beauty conscious and are well educated, so I feel that there is a high demand for dental professionals in India right now.

What do you hope to achieve in your career as a dentist?
As of now I am just concentrating on completing my undergraduate course and then specializing in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. I hope to become a professor, so that I can share my knowledge with upcoming dentists.

What do you enjoy most about being at dental school?
Dental school is a place of enjoyment and work and a place where we can learn many new things. I enjoy the interaction with patients as well.
